Our school has recently made links with St. Patrick's primary school in Darsilami, Gambia after our parish priest, Fr. Adrian Tuckwell, visited the school in February 2010.
For the past two years St. Teresa's has been part of a mission alongside our feeder secondary school, English Martyrs and the parishes of St. Patrick's and St. Teresa's. They have vistied Gambia in Africa in order to raise funds and provide books and spectactles as well as exchange customs and learning.
Due to this our school has also taken part in fundraising as well as providing children's books for the school in Gambia which they visit.
To celebrate this we partcipated in an African day.
The children came to school dressed up and donated money to the Gambia fund.
Each phase participated in different activities about Africa.
Upper Key Stage 2 linked the activities to their topic of water and looked at the importance of water in Africa.
Lower Key Stage 2 learnt about the culture of Gambia (fashion, traditions, music etc) and also wrote letters to exchange with the children from Gambia (which indluded information about the local area, themselves and ask the children about their lives in Africa).
We came together to share the learning we had achieved in a school assembly.
